Dewalt DCS355d1 Review | You’ll Never Regret after Buying this Tool
Oscillating tools offer a single tool solution for so many applications which make oscillating tools the perfect tool for both the hobbyist and professionals. The Dewalt DCS355D1 oscillation tool offers cordless power that can grind, cut, sand, scrape, remove mortar and grout and can be used in tight spaces.
The Dewalt DCS355D1 is a great addition to the Dewalt 20-volt platform and Extreme Runtime (XR) tools. As a long-time user of oscillating tools, I couldn’t be happier when I finally found a cordless option that offers the same power as my old outdated corded version, they certainly surpassed my expectations with this one.
In this article we will go through in details Dewalt DCS355d1 review.

Features of Dewalt DCS355d1:
The Dewalt DCS355D1 fits nicely in the hand at about 12” long and weighs only 3.22 pounds with the 20-volt lithium ion battery installed.
The Dewalt brushless motor runs with less friction making it more efficient than your traditional motor and delivers up to 57% more run time over brushed motors. This tool has a DUAL-GRIP variable speed paddle trigger (which I think could be the most ingenious feature I have seen on any oscillating tool on the market) and operates at 0-20,000 OPM (oscillations per min.).
Dewalt’s accessory change system uses a spring powered lever making it fast and easy to change blades and attachments without the use of tools or loose pins to worry about. Another handy feature which you won’t find on most any other tools is the super bright LED light that comes on when the trigger is activated and stays on 20 seconds which allows for precision cutting.
Tool Guide System
Dewalt has really made me very happy with their tool guide system, finally a tool company that gives you an accessory without tracking it down. Dewalt includes a tool guide system with this multi-tool.
The guide works great and allows you to set the depth or height which provides accuracy when making a series of cuts. I have found it easier to leave the tool guide attached to my tool opposed to leaving it in the tool bag (because I use it frequently).
However, on occasions, I have found that when the guide is attached I have problems burying the blade and getting a full blade depth cut. I wish Dewalt would come up with a way to leave the tool guide attached without affecting my cuts.
Attachments of Dewalt DCS355d1
First, this tool smooth, I was a little concerned about making cuts freehand but it was so easy using the oscillating tool guide system. Also, I’m not sure if it’s because of the brushless motor but this bad boy doesn’t rattle or vibrate like my old tool. Also, I just love the rubber grip I think this helps when making straight cuts as well.
Dewalts UNIVERSAL FITMENT oscillating blades cover a wide range of applications from cutting wood with nails to pipes and bolts. I’ve used it to cut molding, siding, drywall and on occasions shingles. The spring clamps the blade securely and allows for the blade to be moved to different positions to accommodate each cutting application.
The kit I purchased includes the fitting plus a lot of sandpaper in three different grits. I was able to round edges and clean up my putty holes and I love that I didn’t have to deal with power cord, they always seen to get in the way when I’m sanding. Overall very easy to handle.
The UNIVERSAL FITMENT Detail Sanding pad makes for quick work on a variety of surfaces. Perfect for tight spaces and detail sanding. The sanding pad, coupled with Dewalts full range of sandpaper gets the job done.
Highly underrated, I’ve used it to remove paint, caulking, expansion foam, spackle, and anything else that needs to be scraped. Quickly removing hardened adhesives, linoleum flooring and layers of paint, the UNIVERSAL FITMENT scraping blades make quick work or sticky situations.
Universal Adaptor- Using Off Brand Blades
The Dewalt DCS355D1 comes with a UNIVERSAL ACCESSORY ADAPTOR that can help when working with oscillating tool accessories of other brands, which is convenient if are replacing an older version as you won’t have to purchase new ones. I found that my blades snugged up much tighter than on my old tool.
I challenge this multi-tool on a daily basis, and even after plunge cuts inside the wall cavity and slicing through nails in the process and cutting through drywall all day on a single charge. It’s claim to have 57% increased run-time is defiantly valid.
I went through some cuts fairly fast, but a little slower than my reciprocating saw would have done. I probably wouldn’t use this if I had both tools on hand during an open stud wall situation but it will get the job done.
